Baldessari: Het universum begrijpen.

Bovenstaand filmpje over John Baldessari is van Tate Channel, die geweldige site van Tate Gallery.
Naast bovenstaand filmpje zijn daar nog veel interessante filmpjes te zien waarin kunstenaars aan het woord zijn.

John Baldessari is één van mijn favoriete Amerikaanse kunstenaars. Niet dat ik al zijn werken nu zo bijzonder vind, maar het oeuvre is vooral bijzonder. En - dat zult U begrijpen – dat komt vooral door zijn collage-achtige kijk op de zaken.

In bovenstaand filmpje legt Baldessari meteen aan het begin uit wat kunst voor hem inhoudt. En ik merkte dat het verrassend overeenkwam met hoe ik er zelf tegenaan kijk. Het is bovendien prettig dat Baldessari het vrij eenvoudig uitlegt.

Vervolgens komt zijn eigen artistieke ontwikkeling aan bod en ook daar vertelt hij heel gemakkelijk over. En mij uit het hart gegrepen zijn zijn slotopmerkingen over het ontstaan en maken van kunst.

John Baldessari is one of my favourite American artists. Not that i love all his works, but his oeuvre is very special. And – you’ll understand that – that is because of his collage-like ways of seeing.

Immediately in the beginning of this movie Baldessari explains what art is to him. And i noticed that it was surprisingly similar to the way i look at it myself. Moreover Baldessari explains it quite simply.

Next his own artistic development can be seen and he talks about that quite easily too. I could have made his final remarks about the conception and making of art myself.
